These Career Scout Terms of Use (the “Terms”) are an agreement between Career Scout (“Career Scout”, “we”, “our”, “us”) and you, the person using the Services (“you”).

By creating an account or using the Services, you agree to these Terms and confirm you’ve read our Privacy Policy. If you’re a consumer, nothing in these Terms affects your legal rights.

1. Definitions

  • “Services” means the Career Scout website at careerscout.uk, the app at app.careerscout.uk, and everything Career Scout does for you through them.
  • “Account” means your Career Scout account.
  • “Wallet” means the prepaid balance in your Account, in pounds sterling.
  • “Request” means anything you ask the Services to do that is charged to your Wallet, such as a job search, an advert check, a cover letter or interview practice.
  • “Your Content” means your CVs, messages and anything else you give us.
  • “Output” means the letters, answers, scores, checks and other results the Services produce for you.

2. The Services

2.1 What Career Scout does.

Career Scout is an AI job search assistant. It finds jobs on job sites and employers’ websites, scores them against your CV, checks listings for signs of fraud and, in the UK, whether the employer is a licensed visa sponsor. It also writes cover letters and answers to application questions, helps you prepare for interviews and keeps track of the jobs you apply for.

2.2 What Career Scout is not.

Career Scout is a tool for your own job search. It isn’t a recruitment agency or an employment business: it doesn’t apply for jobs for you, put you forward to employers, or promise you an interview or a job.

2.3 Changes to the Services.

We’re always improving the Services, so their features will change. If we make a change that significantly affects how you use them, we’ll tell you first.

2.4 Availability.

We work to keep the Services running, but can’t promise they’ll always be available or free of faults. We may need to pause them for maintenance, or for reasons outside our control.

3. Your Account

3.1 Eligibility.

You must be 18 or over to use the Services.

3.2 Your details.

Give us accurate details and keep your email address up to date: we use it to sign you in and to reach you.

3.3 Keeping your Account secure.

Keep your password to yourself. You’re responsible for what happens in your Account, so tell us straight away at privacy@careerscout.uk if you think someone else is using it.

3.4 One Account per person.

Each Account is for one person, and you may have only one.

4. Wallet, Charges and Payment

4.1 Pay as you go.

There’s no subscription. You add money to your Wallet by card, from £8 at a time, and our payment provider takes the payment on its own secure page.

4.2 Charges.

Money leaves your Wallet only when you make a Request. What a Request costs depends on the AI and search services it uses, and your Wallet lists every charge.

4.3 Running out partway.

If your balance runs out partway through a Request, it pauses. Top up, and it carries on from where it stopped: nothing done so far is lost.

4.4 Failed Requests.

If a Request fails because of a problem on our side, you’re refunded in full, automatically.

4.5 Your balance.

Your balance doesn’t expire while you have an Account.

4.6 Your right to cancel.

You can cancel a top-up within 14 days of making it, and we’ll refund whatever of it you haven’t used: email privacy@careerscout.uk. After 14 days, money in your Wallet can’t be refunded, except where the law gives you that right.

4.7 Deleting your Account.

If you delete your Account, any balance left is lost. If you’d like a refund of an unused top-up from the last 14 days, ask us before you delete it.

5. Acceptable Use

5.1 General restrictions.

You must not:

  • break the law, or use the Services to mislead employers, for example by claiming qualifications or experience you don’t have
  • upload someone else’s CV or personal details without their permission
  • try to get into accounts or systems that aren’t yours, overload the Services, or get round their limits
  • copy Output in bulk, access the Services with automated tools, or resell them
  • upload anything harmful, such as viruses, or anything offensive or unlawful

5.2 If you break these rules.

We may suspend or close your Account, as section 9 explains.

6. AI, Job Listings and Accuracy

6.1 AI-generated Output.

The Services use AI, which can make mistakes. Read every letter, answer and piece of advice before you use it. You’re the author of anything you send to an employer, so make sure it’s true and that you’re happy with it.

6.2 Your CV is the source.

Letters and answers are written from your CV and the job advert. If your CV doesn’t show something, the Services won’t claim it for you.

6.3 Job listings.

Job listings come from job sites and employers, not from us. We can’t promise that a listing is accurate, genuine or still open.

6.4 Fraud checks.

Our fraud checks look for known warning signs. They reduce the risk of scams but can’t rule them out. Never pay to apply for a job, and take care before giving anyone your bank or identity details.

6.5 Visa sponsorship.

Visa-sponsor information comes from the UK government’s public register of licensed sponsors. It can be out of date, or match a different employer with a similar name. It isn’t immigration advice: check with the employer, and speak to a qualified adviser if you need advice.

6.6 Match scores.

Match scores are our view of how well a job fits your CV. They don’t predict what an employer will decide.

7. Your Content and Ownership

7.1 Your Content.

Your Content stays yours. You allow us to store and use it, and to share it with our service providers, only to provide the Services to you, as our Privacy Policy explains.

7.2 Output.

The Output the Services produce for you is yours to use in your job search.

7.3 Career Scout technology.

The Services, including our software, design, name and logo, belong to us. Please don’t copy them, or use our name without permission.

7.4 Feedback.

If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them to improve the Services. We’ll only quote you if you say we may.

8. Third-Party Websites

The Services link to job sites and employers’ websites. We don’t control them, and their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them.

9. Term and Termination

9.1 Ending your Account.

You can delete your Account at any time from your profile. It’s permanent: your CVs, chats, letters and applications are deleted straight away. Our Privacy Policy explains the records we must keep.

9.2 Suspension or termination by us.

We may suspend or close your Account if you break these Terms seriously or repeatedly, or if the law requires it. Unless we can’t, we’ll tell you why. If we close it when you haven’t broken these Terms, we’ll refund your balance.

9.3 If we stop the Services.

If we ever stop offering the Services, we’ll tell you in advance and refund the balance in your Wallet.

10. Our Responsibility to You

10.1 Foreseeable loss.

If we break these Terms, or don’t provide the Services with reasonable care and skill, we’re responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result. Loss is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen, or if we both knew it might happen when you started using the Services.

10.2 What we don’t exclude.

We don’t exclude or limit our responsibility where it would be unlawful to do so: for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for breaking your legal rights as a consumer.

10.3 What we’re not responsible for.

We’re not responsible for decisions employers make, for listings, websites or services run by others, or for how you use Output.

10.4 Personal use.

The Services are for your personal job search, so we’re not responsible for business losses.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may change these Terms to reflect changes to the Services, to the law, or to the services we rely on, and the “Last updated” date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change matters, we’ll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. If you don’t accept it, you can delete your Account before then, and we’ll refund the balance left in your Wallet.

12. General Terms

12.1 Governing law.

These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts can settle any dispute. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also use your local courts. If you live in another country, you keep the protection of its consumer laws.

12.2 Severability.

If a court finds part of these Terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.

12.3 Transfer.

We may transfer these Terms to another organisation that takes over the Services. Your rights under them won’t be affected, and we’ll tell you if it happens.

12.4 Entire agreement.

These Terms, with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Services.
